In 2001 the old vicarage was sold, leaving the church without any facilities, that is no water, no toilets, nowhere to hold meetings and so seriously restricting our Mission and Outreach into the Community.
Later that year work began to plan for a small extension to the church, to enable the lost facilities to be replaced.
After all the preliminary work – architects plans, planning consent, faculty, etc. fund raising began in 2005/6.
In May 2010 the building had been constructed and was handed over to us by the contractor. In September 2010 Bishop Christopher, our new Bishop formally opened and blessed the building.
As a Church community we are very proud of our achievement in raising the £300,000 that was required to build and equip the building.
There is still a need for more money to fully complete the equipping of the building.
The Building and its current use
The Rooms are now being used frequently; some of the activities are listed here:
Coffee after Church; Luncheon Club; Breakfast Club; Film Club; Rocs (Sunday School); private birthday parties; meetings – Parochial Church Council, Standing Committee; The Local History Society will meet here from September onwards; coffee mornings. We have also welcomed the Deanery Synod for its meeting, Churches Together in Bishop’s Waltham; St Judes Church Southsea on Good Friday.
Our Bell Ringers and their visitors also make use of the Rooms. In the winter months choir practice moves from the cold church to the warm Rooms.
The Rooms are also available for Funerals, Weddings and Baptisms.
The Rooms can be hired, providing there is no planned use by the Church at the time.
The current charges are £10.00 per hour plus a damage deposit.
